Today is Boxing Day History

Today on December 26, is Boxing Day History. This tells us that Boxing Day started during the Middle Ages in England. There are a few historians who believe it was to relieve the servants who had to work on Christmas Day.

Another theory about Boxing Day History claims that boxes in churches where members had deposited coins for the poor were opened and distributed on Boxing Day.

Boxing Day history springs ahead generations as today we find a variety of “servants” being rewarded on the 26th of December, including doormen, porters, mail carriers and tradesmen.

The Feast of St. Stephen is celebrated as part of Boxing Day history, and may be where the concept of boxing up food to give as gifts on this day originated.

Regardless of which notion of Boxing Day history you believe, why not box up a little something for someone today and continue to spread the warmth and good will of Christmas?
