Girija Prasad Koirala Died at 85

Here is breaking news: Former Nepal Prime Minister Girija Prasad Koirala died Saturday at the age of 85. Many news all over the net reported that Girija Prasad Koirala passed away at his daughter’s home in Kathmandu. Remembering Girija Prasad Koirala, he’s one actor that ended the 10 years of civil war in Nepal. Koirala had been suffering from respiratory disease several years, just before he died.

Witnesses said thousands of people had gathered at his daughter’s home to pay their respects to the four-time prime minister, a member of a political dynasty credited with helping to bring democracy to Nepal.

Girija Prasad Koirala was the president of Nepali Congress and he was the famous politician. He was also known as G.P Koirala. His career started in 1948 as he founded the Nepal Congress. He has been a very active part of politics in Nepal.

In 1952 Girija Prasad Koirala became the president of Nepal Congress but king Mehndra arrested him and he was imprisoned for fifteen years but in spite of having in jail he continued his politics and his fellows helped him a lot in that period of time. Then1967 he was released but he was exiled with his fellows to India. After returning to Nepal in 1979 he was elected as General secretary of Nepal Congress from 1975 to 1991.

Koirala led the Himalayan nation through some of its biggest upheavals including its most notorious upset when 10 members of the royal family were shot dead by the crown prince in a drunken rampage.
