Well, the man and woman who did all this to her are to blame. Law enforcement, judges, courts, etc. all played their part in not finding her sooner because they neglected to keep track of this guy the way they should have. But the people who committed the crimes against this woman (and her children) are ultimately the ones to be held accountable.
I just hope that out of this tragedy will come some changes in how these pervs are dealt with.

In response to Tiny Dan, kidnappers do brainwash their victims. Just look at Elizabeth Smart and Patty Hurst (if you are old enough to remember Patty Hurst). What is sad is that she was probably being raped at 11 years old, but was not menstruating at 11. She probably got pregnant as soon as she started having a period. It’s a wonder she didn’t have 7 babies like Elizabeth Fritzl in Austria. She could not teach her children much, after all, Jaycee only had a 6th grade education herself. Elizabeth Firtzl taught her children, but at least she had graduated high school or the equivalent to that in Austria.

what were the cops in that town doing for 18 years what a disgrace
i think it is weird she fell in love with the guy and didn’t try to get away. stockholm syndrome
if a guy raped me when i was 11 i would be mad at him and get away before i was almost 30, i mean if i could not escape he would have to kill me. the story is weird and makes no sense.
i would love to see an interview , did they have reading material?radio?TV? they may just barely be functioning.
the crazy rapist is a religious fanatic , so whatch out for crazy bible thumpers , he walked around town with a box that god talked out of, cooo cooo

I am extremely outraged by this event. I find myself thinking about it quite often. I can’t even begin to imagine how life was for Jaycee and her children. This husband and wife TEAM need to be dealt with swiftly and with NO leniency. I also wonder if this happened once with this lunatic there must be other children and adults who have gone missing but are still alive suffering this type of abuse as I write this comment. L@@K around your neighborhood and PAY ATTENTION to those odd things you see and then SPEAK OUT to the authorities and other neighbors. Together, maybe we can stop another child/adult from suffering!

Who is to blame ;; POLICE a neighbour had reported 3 yrs ago a suspicious tent in this back yard ; they went there ask a few questions and left without checking the back yard ;; Nice jobs COPS ; but at least the sheriff took the blame ; and as the last answerer said I would have fled at the very first occasion NObody can watch you 24 / 7 for 18 yrs not true

Ofcourse the kidnappers, but i feel so let down by the police and authorities when i heard they had opportunities to find this girl sooner but they failed to act. So i blame the authorities and police alike. Their job is to protect the innocent if they can’t go get a regular job.
Infact i am really angered by this major failure.
How many more Jaycee’s out there?

The people that did it to her. You know, It just makes me think about how many more cases are like this one that we don`t know about? From what I know, it appeared on the tv like all this was going on in an suburban type of area. I wont blame the neighbors, But myself I would for sure know if something like that was going on in my neighborhood.

Who said her parents gave up looking?

Ultimately Garrido and his wife, but also the justice system. Our system needs a major overhaul. How is it a drug dealer can be put away longer than this man (who was already on federal parole for torture & raping a woman) He should have never been free to go! Sex offenders/ Pedophiles should get a LIFE term for the first offense and I’m sure the majority of Americans would back that all the way.
Wow QuiteNew is clueless, lol.

I think te two people that did this should be blamed and yes this is awful and don’t you think that if they let the family of that poor girl well woman now take care of those two evil people and the taxpayers wouldn’t have to pay for them to rot in prison. VIGILANTE JUSTICE!!!!

Someone should be hitting the unemployment line. Geez!

1. the criminal who took her
2. the wife of the criminal who took her
3. the parents who gave up looking
4. her community who gave up looking
5. the police force who gave up looking
6. absence of pedophile registry in many places
the guy would have been red flagged and watched/monitored continuously by neighbors and the police.

Yes the kidnappers and of course the justice system. I think the police should of tried harder to find this girl before almost two decades went by. I think that our justice system should change the way we deal with the pedophiles and rapist. these people need to be put away for the rest of their lives. not just a few year. i don’t care what other people say. there is no changing them no matter how many therapy classes they go to!
