Finally, Nintendo is clamoring on board the video on demand bandwagon. With the Xbox 360 and Playstation 3 already offering robust downloadable video services, it was only a matter of time before the Wii began offering videos as well.

Nintendo just announced that the Wii will offer up both free and pay videos, at least in Japan. Of course, since the Wii isn’t HD the videos aren’t going to be as high-quality as those offered by Sony and Microsoft, but many more people have Wiis than do Xboxes and Playstations, so this may be a good way to introduce people to downloadable video in the living room.
