BusinessWeek on Last January asked its readers to nominate the most promising social entrepreneurs in the country. And then Better World Books Wins Business Week Award. After over 12,500 votes in April, the results are in and Better World Books leads the pack with 36% of the vote! The company has donated over 6 million, since its launch in 2002, to literacy programs and libraries around the world in addition to mandatory carbon offsetting for its book shipments. Better World Books sells about 10,000 books per day.

Better World Books collects used books and supports book drives and also textbooks through a network of over 1,600 college campuses and partnerships with nearly 1,000 libraries nationwide. They have converted more than 11 million donated books into funding for education and literacy so far. In the process, they’ve also diverted more than 6,000 tons of books from landfills and donated nearly one million books to partner programs like Books for Africa, Worldfund, Room to Read, the National Center for Family Literacy, and Invisible Children.

Join Better World Books in their mission to create a better world, one book at a time, by supporting them at Better World Books.

As we used to say: “DBTH.” Don’t Believe The Hype. They are very pompous and arrogant Notre Dame students. I have worked there. If you ask anyone that works there, they will tell ya they only hire and promote fellow Notre Dame Students. I was fired from the company. I have an MBA, and worked my ass off when I was there. However, I was told on numerous occassions that a raise would be awarded to me, but I never got it. So, when I finally called my boss out on it, he promptly demoted me. Within about a month, I was terminated.
